Concentric Circles

LI:to use colours that relate to your emotions from the music

For the past few weeks, LS2 has been finding out what mood and atmosphere is. We started by reading a variety of ANZAC poems, and highlighting how each sentence made us feel. Afterwards we answered different questions about how we felt during the poems. Our next step was to listen to a collage of music, and use different colors to illustrate how we felt listening to each insturmental. The circles had to be concentric, meaning they started in the middle of our page, and progressed outwards. The art was based of a russian artist by the name of Wassily Kandinsky. He would normally listen to opera music and paint how he feels.

This activity was fun learning how colours can match with your emotion through music.

Places in Aotearoa

Our task today with Whea Odie was to locate certain places and label them with the Maori words. For Example: Kei hea Taranaki, which means where is Taranaki? Another task we did with Whea Odie was revising the words for the day olf the week, the weather and tomorrow, yesterday and now.

Statisical Investigation

LI: to read the numbers, identify the problem and suggest a possible solution.

A statistical investigation is when you collect data, then analyse the information to find out more about a topic. We performed a statistical investigation to find out the reading status of LS2. With this in mind, we read the numbers of the graphs and my partner and I analysed the data.

We found that a large number of students don’t read for their own enjoyment. We identified the problem and suggested a possible solution.

By carrying out this statistical investigation, we found out more about what the students of LS2 think about reading. In conclusion, we can encourage the students to read for entertainment and enjoyment thanks to the statistical investigation and the analysis of our data.

PB4L

This week’s PB4L lesson was about using manners towards adults and visitors.

Having good manners mean being good and respectful towards others.

Using manners is important because it allows others to treat you the way you want to be treated, and allows others to build their confidence by talking to the teachers, but it also can be used with anyone.

There are many expected ways we can be respectful to adults/visitors. You can hold doors open for adults as a way of showing your respect to them. Using appropriate language around visitors and adults should be automatic. Some ways to speak formally in front of adults is to use manners although you should always use manners at all times. When a visitor is speaking, always make sure to listen and look at them to prove that you are listening to them.

This activity was easy because it

Relationships

LI: To understand the roles in a relationship and understand what a working partnership looks like.

To help us understand the vocabulary in this task we defined each word then worked collaboratively to ‘tell me, show me and explain to me’ what these words mean.

This activity was fun because of the defining the words and explaining them by a simple drawing.

Reading

LI: To find evidence in the text to support your answer

This week our group read the text Family Photographs. After reading the text and thinking about the information in the article our challenge was to support the statements based on the questions given. This means also looking at the photos for clues and ideas to give us more information.

This activity was interesting because it helped us learn what type of evidence we need to support a information text.

How Aotearoa came to be

LI: To digitally design the North and South Island based on how they were described in the story

We watched the story of how Maūi fished up the North Island and how his voyage to visit his mother Papatūānuku resulted in the creation of the South Island. Our challenge was to digitally design the North and South Island based on how the Myth and Legend depicted them to look.

Dot to Dot Connections – Relationships

LI:To draw the lines between the words to show the connections you have made.

To help us strengthen our connections to our new topic of Relationships we worked collaboratively to draw lines between words we thought connected. The example I have chosen to share is the connection between agreement and opinions. These words have a connection because agreeing with opinions that we never thought about.

Vision Board

LI: To set and visualise our goals for 2022

A vision board helps us to visualise our goals and what we want to achieve. This is a part of our Careers learning as we know we will need to be setting goals to help us achieve the career goals we want to achieve in the future.

My board shows my culture, my religion, the college that I want to get accepted by and my goals that I want to achieve.

This activity was fun and easy because I have done this last year and also it was fun because I get to show my goals for this year.

Quick Write Time Challenge

LI: To write a imaginative paragraph that makes sense.

Today, Santana and I took on a challenge called ‘quick write’. We would have to write a story in two minutes but there would be two words given to us that we needed to include in our paragraph. The story can be nonsense but the sentences had to make sence. Once two minutes is up, we checked our punctuation and made sure it made sense. Then we would count the amount of words we wrote. Next time, we would try to beat the amount of words we wrote the last time. This time we highlighted the vocabulary we used in the paragraphs.

The first two rounds were individual. The main challenge was two words and two minutes. The two words were nouns, for example: shoes, flour, bear, etc. We wrote these paragraphs in our writing book.

The next challenge was five words and five minutes. We completed this in pairs. This time we had to include three powerful words from Word Hippo, one adjective, one noun, one adverb, one verb, one compound sentence and one rhetorical question.  We wrote these on a piece of paper so we could collaborate properly.

There was a super challenge which was twelve words and twelve minutes. The twelve words were three powerful words from Word Hippo, one adjective, one noun, one adverb, one verb, one compound sentence, one complex sentence, one transitional vocab and a rhetorical question.

What I found interesting during this task was learning how to write fast while using our imagination.
